Butch and concentrated evil

Petr Akopov

By the fortieth day of hostilities in Ukraine, what had long been expected had happened: footage of “Russian atrocities in the occupied territories” appeared. On published footage from the town of Bucha (in the Kiev region) recently abandoned by our military, there are civilian corpses on the streets, bound people shot in the back of the head, pits with the dead… The troops left Bucha a few days ago – and after their departure, the mayor of the city did not say anything about lying on streets of dead bodies. But who cares about this now, as well as the fact that after the departure of the Russian army, Ukrainian units entered the city and carried out a cleansing operation there? Who, when and whom he killed – now no one in Ukraine will understand this.
Because Volodymyr Zelensky immediately accused Russia of genocide, saying: “A concentrated evil has visited our land. Killers. Executioners. Rapists. Marauders. Who call themselves an army… They killed deliberately and with pleasure… who came to our land. These are freaks who don’t know how to do otherwise.”
The terrible footage im-mediately made the rounds of all the Western media, with an invariable reference to the new Srebrenica (that is, the genocide of several thousand Bosnian Muslims imputed to the Serbs in 1995), and caused a harsh reaction from Western politicians. New sanctions are needed, they say in Berlin ; I will starve the Russian army, says Boris Johnson. The European Commission initiates an investigation, and Joe Biden says that he was wrongly reproached for calling Vladimir Putin a “war criminal”:
“He’s a war criminal. But we have to gather information, give Ukraine weapons to keep fighting, get all the details so this is a real war crime trial. This guy is a barbarian. What’s going on in Bucha is outrageous. And everyone saw it. I think it’s a war crime. I’m pushing for new sanctions, I’ll keep imposing them.”
Naturally, the Poles went the furthest. Prime Minister Morawiecki called Russia a totalitarian-fascist state, and what happened in Bucha was a genocide:
“Strong sanctions should be imposed on Russian society: a ban on issuing visas for Russia, except for humanitarian visas for those who flee from this fascist country. We proposed sanctions for all members of the EP party, Putin’s party, so that not only he, but all “Everyone who elects and supports Putin. We have proposed a radical plan to turn off Russian oil and gas – the Russian valve. We call on all European leaders: do it as soon as possible, do not be afraid!”
So here’s the thing, we need to make sure that European leaders are not afraid of new sanctions against Russia! The Polish prime minister openly reproaches them for both indecisiveness and pandering to the Russians:
“In Europe, the situation is very simple. Everything can be seen at the summits. Germany is the main brake on very decisive sanctions… Mr. Macron, how many times have you negotiated with Putin? What have you achieved? Have you prevented any events? fight”.
That is, the Germans and the French must finally gather their courage – and commit suicide. And what else will a quick rejection of Russian energy resources lead to, because there are no other serious sanctions left? In Berlin and Paris, they don’t want to ruin their own economy, the same Macron doesn’t want Europe to turn into a complete puppet of the Anglo-Saxons, which means that you need to break their resistance, pressing with the help of indignant public opinion, which will demand to abandon any trade with the “Russian devils”, to fence off from them with a wall and at any cost to stop their march to the West.
After all, what is Zelensky talking about? “This is how the Russian state will now be perceived. This is your image. Your culture and human appearance perished along with the Ukrainians and Ukra-inian women you came to.” That is, there is a dehumanization of Russians as such. Russians, who threaten not only Ukraine anymore, this is exactly what Zelensky is playing on:
“There are standards of Ukrainian people. And there are standards of Russian occupiers. This is good and evil. This is Europe and a black hole that wants to tear it all apart and swallow it up.”
In other words, Russians are not people, they have lost their human appearance (or the right to exist), and Russia is a black hole, an absolute evil that wants to devour Ukraine and all of Europe. Zelensky says this, Morawiecki supports this, and they want to force Western Europeans to subscribe to such formulations. Absolutely Nazi formulations, but who will notice it now, who cares?
They want to scare Europe to death in order to deprive the remnants of independence and a sense of self-preservation. But you need to understand that she, like the West as a whole, is absolutely indifferent to the victims of the last forty days.
More than twenty thousand people have already died in Ukraine – almost one and a half thousand of our military and about the same number of soldiers of the DPR and LPR, and about twenty thousand from the Ukrainian side (including about a thousand civilians). That is, this civil war, and it is civil, albeit in the form of a conflict between two states, is already costing us a lot of Russian blood (it is she who is shed on both sides). This is a real tragedy for the Russians.
Do you really think that the West mourns this as much as we do? Or does he repent of using Ukraine to fight Russia, that he provoked us by joining NATO, that he nurtured anti-Russia? Of course not, and not just for geopolitical reasons. It’s just that for the Anglo-Saxons, Russians are almost like Iraqis or Yemenis, Somalis or Afghans. That is, second-class people, among whom no one counts the victims (including from the “democratic interventions” of the West). With the only difference: the Russians are close and they are white. And (in their “Ukrainian” version) they flee en masse to Europe – to the displeasure of both the previous, non-white refugees, and the natives.
At the same time, the West has not only demonized Russia, but also dehumanized its people: servants of the devil, that is, Putin, enemies, a threat to the world. Everything that Europeans are used to, because for hundreds of years they have been fed Russophobia. Therefore, footage of “Russian victims in Bucha” could not fail to appear. It is this image of ours that the West is waiting for, this is what it needs to finally be convinced that it is right.
It would seem that this is already redundant, because there are already enough reasons to incite hostility towards us: we started hostilities, we bomb military facilities, but at the same time, alas, civilians inevitably die, in occupied cities there are attempts at partisanship and sabotage, with the answer on which ours, of course, do not stand on ceremony. And during the storming of Mariupol, there are numerous casualties among civilians. But no – you need to invent attacks on the maternity hospital, on the theater with a thousand people in the basements, deliberate shelling of residential areas.
Now here is Bucha with corpses on the streets. Who killed them? “Of course, Russians,” although it is much more likely that these were the victims of Ukrainian detachments who returned to the city and dealt with collaborators, that is, those who helped or simply communicated with the Russian army. But it’s pointless to explain this to the West: it wants confirmation of its belief in “Russian barbarians and murderers” and will get it anyway.
And it will be so regardless of how we really behave in Ukraine with civilians, that’s what we need to understand. For us, this is civilian, and for the West, it’s just the return of the old familiar image of the “Russian bloodsucker”, which is necessary to prepare their own population to fight against us. Previously, in the 19th and 20th centuries, they were mobilized to fight on the battlefield, and now they are mobilized for economic struggle, justifying the need to tighten their belts in order to stop “Russian atrocities.”
As soon as we understand this, it will become deeply indifferent what they say about us in the West. This is our internal war, a civil one, and we have slid into it in many respects precisely because we have been looking to the West for several decades, not properly reacting to the fact that it is forming in us (yes, with active domestic demand) anti-national strata in society and the elite, to the fact that he is trying to tear Ukraine away from us and recode Ukraine, making an accidental split into an eternal division.
Still, alas, there will be a lot of blood, our blood, but we know why we shed it. Including to never again depend on someone else’s opinion about us, no matter good or bad. And from someone else’s lies – understanding by whom and for what it is produced. The black hole really threatens Europe – only it can be swallowed up by dehumanizing the Russians.
