The West abandoned Ukraine: What’s next?

Petr Akopov

Was Russia’s recognition of the two Donbass republics a turning point in the work to dismantle the Atlantic world order? No, this is just a continuation of the process – and in essence, on the “ground”, nothing has changed at all. Russia has recognized the objective reality: Ukraine, which lost control of the Donbas eight years ago, does not want to change in order to restore its unity. Ukraine does not need the Donbass – Ukraine does not need it as an anti-Russia, that is, a Ukraine that the Atlanticists and local elites are trying to secure as a permanent outpost against Russia. For such a Ukraine, the departure of Donbass is practically a gift (if this were the end of it). But it won’t end, because for Russia the Ukrainian issue is not a matter of foreign policy or even just security. It’s a matter of our self-awareness that is, responsibility for one’s own people, one’s country and history. And this is not the history of the Russian Federation or the USSR – this is the history of Russia and the Russian people.
That is why Putin gave such a long historical lecture about Ukraine before announcing the recognition of the DPR and LPR , because he acted as a representative of the Russians as such, Russia as such. And Russia considers Ukraine part of itself – you can resent this, talk about international law or ridicule Russian imperialism. All this does not matter, because the Russians themselves know that this is true, because the Russians know their roots and their history, they see the threats and challenges.
And defending the idea of ??”sovereignty of states” in the era of globalization promoted by the West, when even within the framework of the European Union there is a gradual erosion of not just sovereignty, but national identity, is simply ridiculous. The Russian state fell apart, and now it is gradually gathering itself and its historical space – insisting that other centers of power should not build fortified areas against Russia from the fragments of our empire. And this is called expansion and aggression? Russians came to Europe and threaten Europe? On the contrary, the West shamelessly invaded our borders (taking advantage of our temporary weakness and split), and now, when we go on the counteroffensive, it shouts “stop the aggressor.”
Ukraine in this case is simply a victim – not of Russian expansion, but of greed and shortsightedness. Our own elites (ours in the 90s were a little better – but Russia still had the instinct of statehood, and then Putin deprivatized the levers of power) and the West as such. The attempt to take Ukraine away from Russia was as brazen as it was adventurous – it was necessary to bet on the fact that Russia itself would weaken and fall apart. Under any other option, the Russians would inevitably come for their own. This is what is happening – because only a geopolitically and spiritually dead Russia could abandon Ukraine, that is, from itself, come to terms with the loss of its foundation.
The West, by and large, did not count on the strategic success of the Ukrainian adventure after it completely took control of the country in 2014: it was important for the Atlanticists to maintain the split between Russia and Ukraine as long as possible. The West was afraid to place an unequivocal stake on the atlantization of Ukraine, not wanting to provoke Russia. But he also could not deprive the Kiev elites of hope for help, because without this, the whole structure of today’s Ukraine as anti-Russia would begin to crumble.
The Ukrainian authorities saw the price of Western guarantees in February, when the Anglo-Saxons and Europeans began to transfer their embassies to Lvov. And this is in the face of the “Russian threat” they themselves invented, when Russia simply demonstrated its military power, reinforcing it with forcing the West to dialogue on Ukraine. The Atlantists did not guarantee that Ukraine would not join NATO , but they showed by their words and deeds that they would not defend it. That is, the whole construction of “Ukraine tse Europe” crumbled from the mere shadow of Russia.
And at that moment, the Kiev authorities began to directly accuse the West of betrayal – as, in fact, Zelensky did it in Munich last Saturday:
“Since 2014, Russia has been convincing that we have chosen the wrong path, that no one is waiting for us in Europe. Shouldn’t Europe constantly say and justify with actions that this is not true? Shouldn’t the EU say today: our citizens have a positive attitude towards Ukraine’s entry into Union? Why are we avoiding this question? Doesn’t Ukraine deserve direct, honest answers?”
What answer did the President of Ukraine want to hear? “We would like to take Ukraine for ourselves, but we understand that we will not succeed, so we simply use your country to contain Russia and play with it” – he will not wait for such honesty from the Anglo-Saxons. And the Europeans do understand that they are being made hostages of the Anglo-Saxon game – and can only try to minimize their losses.
But Kiev does not want to know the truth and continues to speak. Moreover, to say something that only confirms all the worst Russian fears: that there is an attempt to reject the western part of the Russian lands in favor of Europe, a change in the historical borders of the Russian world and Europe. After all, what did Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba say on Tuesday ?
“I called on the EU to immediately put aside all the hesitations, all the restraints, all the skepticism that exists in some European capitals, and give Ukraine the promise of future EU membership. That time has come. With what is happening, it is absolutely clear that the best strategic decision that Now Europe can accept it – it is literally taking Ukraine for itself.
“Kemsk volost? Yes, take it, Lord.” And it doesn’t matter that Kuleba and Zelensky are trading as if they were their own, that they are officials of a formally independent state – they are nobody on the scales of Russian history, people who manage other people’s property. Kiev princes and Moscow tsars, general secretaries and President Putin look at them as absolute traitors to the Russian people.
The expected silence of Europe, by the way, did not stop Kuleba – he flew to Washington, where, after a conversation with Biden himself (hold on, we are with you), he tried to explain to the Americans why they should save Ukraine. Ordinary Americans – on CNN:
“Firstly, in 1994, Ukraine gave up its nuclear arsenal, which was the third largest in the world. We gave it up in exchange for security guarantees provided, in particular, by the United States. We were promised that if anyone attacks us, the United States will be among the countries that will help us.
Secondly, what is happening in Ukraine concerns not only Ukraine. Putin is challenging the Euro-Atlantic order. If the West fails in Ukraine, Putin’s next target will be one of the NATO members on his eastern flank. Third, if Putin succeeds in Ukraine, other players around the world who want to change the rules, who want to bypass the US, will see that it is possible that the West is incapable of defending what it stands for. Therefore, Americans should be interested in preserving the world order in its current form, and the future of this order is being decided right now in Ukraine.”
How convincing are these arguments for Americans? The first, about guarantees, doesn’t work at all – you promised us… Under Clinton? And what – to fight for you with Russia? And the Anglo-Saxon media have already convinced the entire West that they will have to fight, because the Russians are preparing to throw tanks at Kiev. No, you can’t beat the Americans with that.
The second argument concerns American dominance in Europe. That is, if you give Ukraine to Putin now, then later he will set his sights on Poland and the Baltic states. And you will have to fight already there, because they are members of NATO. This should have an effect on the Anglo-Saxon political elite, but the problem is that this argument was invented by the Anglo-Saxons themselves and has been actively chasing it since 2014. A lot of high-profile statements and articles are devoted to the threat of the Baltic states, and this should have scared, first of all, the intractable members of NATO and the EU like Germany and France: “How dare you work with the Russians – along the same” Nord Stream – 2 “, – when the Baltics are in danger “Quickly stop all work.”
Washington definitely does not want to cede the Baltics to Russia, although they understand that militarily they will not be able to protect it. The problem is that only an imbecile can believe that Russia will attack one of the NATO countries, so this argument does not work here either.
But the third argument is similar to the truth. But exactly what it looks like, because it turns what is happening upside down. If you give in to Putin, everyone in the world (that is, China) will see that the West is not capable of anything. And that’s it – the current world order will collapse. Therefore, if you want to preserve the Atlantic world order, do not give up Ukraine.
But the problem is that the Anglo-Saxons have lo-ng ago overstrained themselves with their project of global domination – and th-ose whom they call revisi-onist countries (that is, primarily Russia and China) have long understood this. And they are engaged in the careful dismantling of the Anglo-Saxon Tower of Babel – including directly at the gates of their homes. Neat – so that all these ziggurats do not fall on everyone’s heads. This is exactly what Russia is doing – squeezing out the architects of the failed world order as far as possible from its borders. historical borders.
