Blaming Moscow for the migration crisis on the border of Belarus and the EU, foreigners are trying to shift their problem “from a sore head to a healthy one,” said Russian President Vladimir Putin. Nevertheless, Moscow is ready to help resolve this issue if something depends on it.
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his readiness to help Belarus in solving the migration crisis that arose on the Belarusian-Polish border. But assistance will be provided only if something depends on Moscow.
“When we hear statements or accusations against us, I want to tell everyone: deal with your internal problems, do not shift your own questions to anyone, which must be resolved by your departments of the corresponding direction,” the head of state said on the air of the Russia-1 TV channel. in an interview with the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin “.
At the same time, Putin stressed that he learned about the crisis on the border from the media. “I have never discussed this issue with Lukashenka before. Only when this crisis arose, we spoke with him twice on the phone, ”the president explained.
Vladimir Putin expressed the opinion that accusations of Russia’s involvement in the migration crisis on the border of Belarus and the EU are on the conscience of those who put them forward. “Look, I already said: we have absolutely nothing to do with this, just not at all! Why is anyone talking about this? Well, it’s on their conscience. It’s just a desire to transfer problems from a sore head to a healthy one, ”the Russian president is convinced.
A few days ago, Putin and the acting German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the situation on the border of Belarus with the EU twice in two days.
The parties, according to the Kremlin press service, confirmed that it is important to resolve the crisis as soon as possible. In particular, Putin believes that contacts between Belarus and the EU should be restored.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell agrees with the Russian president .
“Talking is never harmful. We still have a Charge d’Affaires in Minsk, ”Borr-ell said in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche.
He noted that the “non-recognition of the legitimacy of the regime” of the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko should not prevent the European authorities from communicating with him when it comes to the interests of the EU.
At the same time, he confirmed that on Monday, November 15, EU representatives will consider new sanctions against Minsk. According to Borrell, this is necessary so that “they can be applied to anyone involved in the traffic of migrants to this country, for example, to the airlines or travel agencies involved, by banning the travel of their leaders and freezing their assets in Europe.”
At the same time, Ange-la Merkel said in a conversation with Putin that the Belarusian authorities are to blame for the aggravation of the situation at the border. In her opinion, Minsk “uses defenseless people in a hybrid attack on the European Union .”
But the Belarusian authorities deny all accusations. This behavior of Belarus was a response to Western sanctions that were imposed against Minsk due to elections that the Europeans did not recognize. Lukashenka then said that he would no longer restrain the flow of illegal migrants to the EU countries: because of the restrictions, there is “no money, no strength” for this. At the same time, the Belarusian border guards have repeatedly argued that Lithuania, Poland and Latvia are forcibly expelling migrants to Belarusian territory.
After Lukashenka’s refusal to restrain migrants, border countries reported an increase in the number of detained illegal immigrants.
Due to the tense situation, the Polish president imposed a state of emergency on the territories bordering Belarus and attracted the army and the police to guard the border.
A week earlier, a large group of refugees (mostly Kurds) headed towards the border of Belarus and Poland. About 2 thousand migrants, including women and children, stopped in front of the Polish barriers and set up a spontaneous camp.
