The US State Department intends to allocate funds for a program to promote the English language in Serbia. As noted in the document, which RT has read, the new initiative involves, among other things, the fight against the so-called brain drain from the Balkan republic.
“English proficiency opens up opportunities for Serbian citizens to improve employment prospects, increase access to information and knowledge, and promote critical thinking and media literacy,” the grant description reads.
According to the docum-ent, potential contractors will have to submit projects in which teaching English will solve the problems of brain drain and the spread of “disinformation” in the country. It is noted that the initiative can also contrib-ute to the development of cooperation between Serbs and Americans and residents of EU member states.
As specified, in the cou-rse of work, contractors sh-ould pay attention to issues related to the prospects for Serbia’s accession to the E-U, with an increase in the l-evel of teaching and Eng-lish proficiency among the inhabitants of the republic.
The total amount of funds that the State Department is ready to allocate for the implementation of the program (if funding is available) is $160,000.
Earlier it became known about the US plans to fund projects that will promote American culture and values among the people of Serbia. As reported, the department intends to allocate up to $400,000 for this purpose.
